What do I need to submit for my art?

Submit a digital image of your artwork through this form. After submission and judging, you will receive information on how to submit your original piece for display at the event.

How do I know you received my submission?

You will receive an automatic receipt-of-submission email by completing the submission form.

How many times can I submit?

Each artist or artist group may submit up to TWO entries as long as they are entered under different movements of Pictures at an Exhibition. Artwork may not be changed or edited after submission.

I do not live in Loudoun County. Can I submit?

We currently are only accepting artwork from students who are residents of or attend school in Loudoun County.

Can we submit as a team?

YES! We would LOVE to receive collaborative artwork from schools and groups! All artists of a collaborative work must be part of the same age group: elementary (grades K-5), middle school (grades 6-8), or high school (grades 9-12).

Who selects what art will be displayed?

The Art Comes Alive programming team along with select outside adjudicators will evaluate the suitability of work for display and award the winners in each category. All entries that meet the submission criteria and are appropriate for a general audience will be included.

When will the winners be notified?

All entries that meet the submission criteria and are appropriate for a general audience will be included in the live and online galleries. Winners in each category will be notified by April 15. We encourage everyone to attend the event to support one another and the community!

What type of art do you accept?

We accept photography, traditional 2D art, and digital art. The art must be able to be framed or printed for framing. The LSO will provide framing and professional print services.

Do you have any content limitations?

YES, all art must be family- and community-friendly. If we feel your artwork does not fall into this category, you will be notified.

Am I allowed to look at other artwork inspired by Pictures at an Exhibition?

You may find examples of other artists' work online or elsewhere. All submission must be your original work, and the goal is not to imitate but to create something new. What matters most to us is your visual interpretation of the music, not a recreation of the movement's title or an existing piece of visual art. Entries will be judged on originality and unique representation as well as on technical skill. You may use the artist's statement in the submission form as a method of further connecting the music to your artwork.
