Open Volunteer Staff Positions

These positions represent a major time and energy commitment to the symphony. Concert dates are listed on the Volunteer Information Form.

General House Manager – one required for entire concert season. (NA for chamber concerts)




House Managers – five required, 1 for each LSO concert (NA for chamber concerts).



Bookkeeper's Assistant – one required




Post-Concert Reception Managers – one required for each concert.

Duties:  manage five concerts per concert season; deliver lobby supplies, Playbills and Cash box to concert venue; tip custodian from cash box; remove symphony signs, tickets, playbills, etc. from auditorium after concert; scan auditorium post-concert for forgotten items and major messes; tabulate receipts; and remove lobby supplies from concert venue.

Requirements:  Adult position, previous experience as Symphony box office assistant.

Time required: 5 hours per concert plus transport of lobby supplies


Duties:  unpack lobby supplies; set up box office table and signs; instruct and supervise box office assistants and ushers; maintain control of Cash Box; control noise during concert; pack up lobby supplies.

Requirements:  Adult position, previous experience as Symphony box office assistant.

Time required: 2 ½ hours per concert


Duties:  assist the Treasurer with routine bookkeeping functions including: extracting bills, checks etc. from the incoming mail; filing bills and other financial correspondence for the Treasurer to process; preparing and making bank deposits; processing credit card charges; processing musician service and mileage forms and preparing the pay list for each concert; other tasks that may arise, time permitting.

Requirements: good computer skills; some knowledge of bookkeeping helpful but not required.

Time required: 4 hours/week plus 6 hours extra for each of four concerts.


Duties:  recruit own helpers, pick up punch bowls, table cloths, paper plates, napkins, cups from office; replenish supplies if necessary and purchase punch and ice unless school provides ice (reimbursement provided); transport all supplies to concert venue; set up tables; replenish punch bowls and plates during the reception; clean up afterwards; orchestra and board members provide the snacks; return supplies to office.

Requirements:  Adult position, good organizational skills, enjoy decorating and entertaining.

Time required: adequate set up time for reception beginning at 10 pm, clean up concludes around 11:15 pm.
