Youth Orchestra


The Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra has had a highly successful and fun 2014-2015 season! We are looking forward to an even better 2015-2016!


Live auditions for next season have come to a close, we had many wonderful student-musicians audition. Select Positions are open for the 2015-2016 season. They are: Violin, Clarinet, French Horn, Trumpet, Bass Trombone, and Percussion*.
Video auditions will be accepted through August 2015.

The Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra (LSYO) provides performing opportunities for middle school and high school students who have at least three years of experience with a private teacher or in school music programs.

The season starts in September and goes through May. Rehearsals are on Mondays from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm. They include professionally directed sectionals, a master class, and a concerto competition. There are three concerts per season which are scheduled in late August.

Rehearsals and concerts generally take place at Stone Bridge High School in Ashburn.  Many thanks to Stone Bridge staff, Fine Arts faculty, and especially Band Director Dr. Keller!

Tuition is $400 for the full year. Some scholarships are available on a need basis.

LSYO AUDITION REQUIREMENTS: Select positions available for 2015-2016 Season

  • prepare Excerpts (Excerpts and audition info — click here)
  • Scales must be memorized up to 4 flats and 4 sharps in Major scales. Strings play in 3 octaves. Woodwinds and Brass play chromatic scales in 16th notes, slur going up, tongued coming down.
  • * Live percussion auditions can be scheduled if student does not have access to instruments.
