Loudoun’s Got Talent! gives Loudoun high school age students the chance to compete for $1,750 in scholarship awards. In the initial round of auditions, a panel of judges selects ten finalists from all the entrants. The ten finalists from the auditions then compete in a Finalist Showcase concert for the following awards:
- A scholarship of $1000 and a live performance spot at a Loudoun Symphony concert for the first place winner.
- Scholarships of $500 and $250 for the second and third place winners.
- Announcement in the local media
The 2011 Auditions were held on Saturday, March 5, 2011. The ten finalists were: Marisa Ahmed, Ryan Anderson, Sarah Hong, Jake Kelsey, Alex Lassa, Christi McCarthy, Jamie Orr, Andrew Tufano, Michele Viljoen and Somok Yoo. The Finalist Showcase concert was held on March 27, 2011. The winners, selected by a panel of judges including LSO Maestro Mark Allen McCoy as well as audience votes were: Somok Yoo, cello, first place; Ryan Anderson, piano, second place; and Christi McCarthy, soprano, third place. Congratulations to the winners, the finalists, and all the contestants. Loudoun County definitely does have talent!
The competition is open to musicians in ages 14-18 years old who are amateur instrumental or vocal performers residing or attending school in Loudoun. The contest is limited to individual performers, i.e. no groups. Contestants must perform an instrumental or vocal piece no longer than 5 minutes in length, with or without an accompanist.
Deadline for registration is generally set several weeks before the audition date. An application fee of $25 is required. The simple registration process is handled online.
