Conductor, Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra & String Workshop
Dr. Yeong Su Kim was appointed conductor of both the Loudoun Symphony Youth Orchestra and String Workshop starting with the 2008-09 season. Dr. Kim conducts the Washington Korean Symphony Orchestra and several other orchestras in the DC area. He is a conducting lecturer at the Catholic University and adjunct professor at the Columbia Union College. He is also an adjudicator for the Asian American Music Society Competition. Recently, Dr. Kim conducted a successful concert at the Kennedy Center for the Asian American Heritage Month Celebration, and he has conducted the Catholic University Symphony Orchestra and the Repertory Orchestra on numerous occasions.
Dr. Kim graduated from the Catholic University of America in orchestral conducting, where he continues his studies with Murry Sidlin and David Searle. An accomplished oboist as well, Dr. Kim earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has a master’s degree from Yale University and bachelor’s degree from University of Southern California. He is an active freelancer and chamber musician, is a founding member of Voci di Vento Quintet, and has performed in numerous ensembles locally and in Korea.
