Loudoun Symphony Launches 21st Season with October 8th Concert

Opening Night Features Phil Munds, Principal Horn/Baltimore Symphony Orchestra

Leesburg, VA.  September 19, 2011—The Loudoun Symphony, opens their 2011-2012 Concert Season at 7:30 PM on October 8, 2011 at the Virginia Academy – Community Church at 19790 Ashburn Road,. Ashburn, Virginia 20147. Opening Night at the Symphony will be directed by Mark Allen McCoy, Music Director and Conductor and will feature Phil Munds, Principal Horn at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The concert includes Rossini’s William Tell Overture, Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major, op. 11, Milhaund’s, Le Boeuf sur le Toit, op.58 and Hindermith’s Symphonic Metamorphosis of Themes by Carl Maria von Weber. 

The Loudoun Symphony will present four full orchestra concerts in the concert hall and will present chamber concerts at the Franklin Park Arts Center in Purcellville.  Tickets may be purchased at 703-771-8287 or online at www.loudounsymphony.org (Adults $22, Seniors $18, Students $10) or at the door (Adults $25, Seniors $20, Students $15).  All youth under age 12 are admitted free.  Subscriptions offering savings of 45% over the single ticket door price are available by telephone or on the website.  Group discounts are available for blocks of 10 tickets or more.

  • November 20, 2011 Loudoun Symphony Orchestra Chamber Concert at 3:00 at Franklin Park Arts Center, Purcellville, Virginia.  A pre-concert lecture with the Maestro Mark Allen McCoy will begin at 2:30 PM
  • December 10, 2011 Holiday Spectacular full orchestra concert will begin at 7:30 at Virginia Academy – Community Church in Ashburn, Virginia.  The program includes Hovhaness’ Prayer of St. Gregory, Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music, Handel’s Selections from ‘Messiah,’ Stephenson’s Holiday Overture, Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C Major, Beck’s Lullaby, Stephenson’s Winter Wonderland, Anderson’s Sleigh Ride, Holcombe’s ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas and Finnegan’s Christmas Singalong.
  • February 18, 2012 Orbital Sciences Presents Space & Beyond Family Concert at 4:00 PM at Virginia Academy – Community Church in Ashburn, Virginia.  The full orchestra concert will feature narration by Don O’Brien and musical selections include Strauss’ 2001: A Space Odyssey, Holst’s Mars from ‘The Planets,’ Dorff’s Blast off!, Moss’ Apollo 13 Selections, Custer’s Star Trek through the Years, Williams Music from E.T., and Star Wars Medley.
  • March 24, 2012 Fantasy and Romance full orchestra concert will feature guest composer Mark Edwards Wilson.  Musical selections include Wilson’sThe Phoenix which is an American Composer Competition winner and Bruckner’s Symphony No. 4 in E-flat Major, ‘Romantic.’
  • April 29, 2012 Loudoun Symphony Orchestra Chamber Concert returns to Franklin Park Arts Center in Purcellville, Virginia at 3:00 PM.  A pre-concert lecture with the Maestro with Mark Allen McCoy will begin at 2:30 PM.

Congratulations to Mark Edwards Wilson, who’s composition “The Phoenix” won first place in the American Composer Competition hosted by the Loudoun Symphony Orchestra.
